Slow art is a deliberate pushback against fast, image-saturated visual culture.

The idea took off with Slow Art Day, founded by Phil Terry in 2008 after he spent hours ‘slow looking’ with a few works at the Jewish Museum in New York. As he puts it, "visitors often see art from their phones. Slow art is an antidote to that".

Slow making. Work produced through time-consuming, patient, craft-heavy processes, where slowness itself is a quality of the finished piece rather than an obstacle. This encompasses works that I produce, such as fibre art, weaving and bookbinding.
